Speaking in Grand Junction, Colo., today, Barack Obama began by offering thanks to all of the key Democratic Party officials in the area. Things went horribly bad when he paused to thank an official with the Ute Indian tribe. Instead of pronouncing the name of the tribe correctly (i.e., it rhymes with “boot”*), he went with the French version: “you-tay.”
Not surprisingly, a quick Google News Search — with all of the words “Grand Junction” and “Ute” and the exact phrase “Barack Obama” — turned up zero results. Another media cover up for “The Obamessiah.”
As soon as video is available, I’ll try to post it here.
* See Merriam-Webster’s entry for “Ute” to learn more.

BA – Good one!

The credibility-less media will gloss over any and all Obama gaffes, until they see that he can’t win in November; then watch for the start of — besides this being a racist nation blather — “Dang, we coulda had Hillary!” buyer’s remorse.
And thus will begin her campaigin for 2012…
BTW, Veep candidate Palin was here in town (just over the hill from me at the fair grounds, in fact) and wow’ed a crowd that was bigger than the original event had planned on. McCain looks smarter with each passing campaign speech by Sarahcuda.

Skunk — I agree!

wow you guys are really struggling to look for thigns to criticize. the fact that obama mispronounced a relatively obscure american indian tribe sure does mean he’s a bad guy, huh?
Why don’t you focus on the fact that your candidate is completely out of touch and made an even bigger gaffe by giving the same stupid mindless stump speech he always gives without apparently reading a single newspaper this morning or having heard any news period for the last 3 days. good luck boys–your man is relying on a hope and lipstick stained prayer.

greg,
Perhaps Obama’s too old to be president? Ha! How about we agree to this: I’ll say what I want to say and Ute (“you-tay”) what you want to say. ROFL!
7 JorgXMcKie // Sep 15, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Greg, I’m sure that just as soon as you Obamabots quit ‘struggling to look for thigns (sic) to criticize’ so will Bob.
Maybe you want to go back to bashing McCain for not using email (due to his injuries as a POW)?
Keep trying to pull that foot from the Uhbamessiah’s mouth. It’ll take a lot of work.
8 hotoffthepress2 // Sep 15, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Jorg — Well put.
9 Always On Watch // Sep 15, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Maybe BHO thought the Utes were Latinos. He pronounced the word as through it were Spanish, more or less.

It really amazes me to watch how Americans can turn vicious, and racist, and hold a double standard on the most obvious subjects. To focus on lipstick when the more serious issues are left undealt with. If you only pay attention to what has happened naturally in spite of ourselves. The global warming issue showed up in the form of Gustav and Ike. The economic situation roared forth in the form of Lehmasn Brothers. The American public would rather look for tiny gaffes of the candidates and point fingers like children. The stakes are too high. Wake up America. A candidate that appeals to your inherent prejudices against Blacks or for women and leaves the other issues alone is not worthy of your vote. Let;s force the candidates to deal with the tough issues now. Don’t fall for the “give up your vote easily” trap. Treat your vote like it is your virginity. Don’t give it up . Make them earn your vote by dealing with the issues squarely.
11 hotoffthepress2 // Sep 15, 2008 at 6:49 pm
ettoobrute — Except for the global warming blather, you’re right! That’s why I’m voting for McCain-Palin!
12 ettoobrute // Sep 15, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Deal or No Deal ….you choose. No new taxes staus quo ….do nothing about….everything stays the same until it bites your butt like Katrina or Ike
OR Admit that in order to deal with what is wrong, you’ll have to pay for it ….you’ll pay one way or another. Fix the levees, etc. or deal with repeated disasters and loss of life. Stand pat and do nothing and and enjoy your tax cut and a flood with your name on it is coming to a place near you…eventually !
13 hotoffthepress2 // Sep 15, 2008 at 7:03 pm
ettoobrute — I see you’re a tax-and-spend-and-tax-again liberal who’s hooked on that Pelosi Soup. Here’s a better solution to flooding than taxes: Don’t build in a flood plain!! There, I just saved the nation millions — if not billions — of dollars. No, no, please don’t thank me. I did it with a “COUNTRY FIRST” mindset a la McCain-Palin!
14 ettoobrute // Sep 16, 2008 at 12:46 am
Just as you heat water on your stove, eventually all of the water is warmed which feeds a hurricane. It is the cold water that has been churned up from the depths that has cooled and kept the hurricames somewhat controled. Eventually ,the water will be warmer and warmer…changing weather patterns.
What’s the use. You are too far gone.If you really believed in country first, you’d have at least an inkling of sensibility. As far as Nancy elosi,I am not a supporter.I am for shoring up the home front. The flood plain will grow ruinning farm lands and industry. You’ll pay on the back end for the products you need.Higher prices as a result of low suppy and high demand. If you could save the nation billions ,it won;t be because you voted for McCain-Polin.It would be because you just simply opened your mind and seriously considered that you may be wrong and that the root of your line of thinking is based on race first and not country first.Remember,Hitler led Gernany down the same path as you are following.Did I strike a cord?
15 hotoffthepress2 // Sep 16, 2008 at 5:38 am
ettoobrute — The problem with your “logic” is that it’s based upon junk science. I think you should take the Global Warming Test.
16 Gordon // Sep 16, 2008 at 9:13 am
As a biologist, there is still much debate about global warming and whether it is naturally occurring or induced by humans. From the evidence I’ve seen, it is a naturally occurring phenomenon and a cyclical event which has been going on long before mankind populated the earth. That is not to say humans are not exacerbating the condition. But remember in the 1970s when scientists feared we were going into an ice-age? As regards to ettobrutte, you need to actually start reading scientific journals rather than listening to the mindless reporters on news-entertainment channels and celebrity “experts” to get your facts right before you publish them to the world. And the reference to Hitler….? I hardly think a comparison of McCain/Palin to someone who systematically subscribed to the extermination of a group of people as sanity at its best, and I think you’ve just “outed” yourself as a candidate for Bellvue Hospital and the white-jacket. And to the “virgin” comment…? I actually enjoyed giving up my virginity…I’m a man, what can I say? And I enjoyed it over and over again too. However, voting is different and as far as I can tell, neither party has actually offered any good soultions to the problems we face. All they have really donw is try to tear the other party apart without offering constructive solutions. As for Greg trivialising the importance of the Ute tribe, they were one of the major tribes in the western U.S.; hence the name of the state UTAH! I won’t call you an idiot, that goes without saying.
17 hotoffthepress2 // Sep 16, 2008 at 9:24 am
Gordon — Thank you for saving me a lot of time in replying to Greg. I agree with almost everything you-tay. ha!
18 Gordon // Sep 16, 2008 at 9:27 am
Hooray! Otay! Doya think he just may have been speaking pig-Latin Buckwheat?
19 hotoffthepress2 // Sep 16, 2008 at 9:29 am
Gordon — Actually, I think it was traditional Buckwheat-speak.
20 Gordon // Sep 16, 2008 at 9:33 am
Barack O’Buckwheat…I like it! Irish version, of course!
21 Dori W. // Sep 16, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Excuse me, but the soft accent on the E is indeed a second pronunciation — yu’ teh.
Please get your facts straight before you gloat.
A Proud American Ute woman
22 hotoffthepress2 // Sep 16, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Dori — I don’t believe you. The Utah Utes football team has never been referred to as the “U-tehs” and the Denver Post and Merriam-Webster Dictionary can’t be wrong. I think you’re a Democrat liberal hack trying to keep his/her candidate from looking stupid. BTW, it’s not working.
23 Gordon // Sep 17, 2008 at 7:26 am
No it ain’t working!…and all the lipstick in the world can’t cover that up.
24 ettoobrute // Sep 17, 2008 at 6:55 pm
The good part about”junk science ” is that we all get to wait and see. Some will be prepared, some won’t.Doesn’t sound like you guys have exactly studied rocket science either. I stick to the comment that you guys act like children pointing fingers.I really don’t care what you say . Ignorance always has a history of being brave in groups. Groupthink is were most prejudice is born. When you have gotten rid of all of the foreiners, all of the Blacks, all of the Native Americans ,all of the Jews you will then turn on each other. The desire to eliminate all other groups has been lurking in your psyche for qiute some time. The stolen legacy this country carries like a wallet eats at the magoty history.Go ahead point the finger at Obama…point the finger at whomever trys to bring about sanity. It doesn’t matter who we vote for anyway. all of that has been decided already by the richest of the rich in this world. YOU POOR BAst__ds don’t have any say in it.This country has you eating out of its hand and you don’t even know it.That’s the sad part.An even sadder part is that some sick person will probably try to kill Obama. If …God forbid…something like that happens…people who spread hate on blogs would be just as guilty as the sicko who ……….I know I’ll never get through to any of you,so Ill stop here.
25 hotoffthepress2 // Sep 17, 2008 at 7:03 pm
ettobrute — There’s no hate here, just truth. As for the rest of your rant, hey, you’re entitled to your opinion.
26 Gordon // Sep 18, 2008 at 4:38 am
Wow ettoobrute…is this typical of Obama supporters? If you believe what you say, then it won’t matter if you vote and you may as well not. But I bet you will…so that means you don’t really mean what you’re saying and it was all mindless dribble. …and I’m not sure I understand the loose metaphor between stolen legacy, wallets and maggots but there ya go!
27 redhawk // Sep 18, 2008 at 8:22 am
Easy now Folks .. Obama Unscripted just may make that Insane Biden as the one that makes sense!!
Else the teleprompter had been infiltratyed by that Right wing Conspiracy.. Ya think???
28 hotoffthepress2 // Sep 18, 2008 at 8:50 am
redhawk — I can’t decide whether “Obama Unscripted” sounds most like the title of a comedy film or a horror flick. One thing I do know is that Obama and Biden will combine to produce a lot of trash (film edits) on the floor of the DNC film room.
29 ettoobrute // Sep 22, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Ask an American Indian about what was stolen,Gordon. Maggots are the lowest of all denomenators. The Bush/Chaney/Mc Cain /Palin group have equaled if not gone lower than maggots. The lies, the scripted BS they have brought forth for the last 7.9 years and the morons the believe it…..that is what dribble is made of. You guys will never deal with truth because you are caught up with the original thread of this country–
LIES,RACISM ,SEXISM ,FASCISM,GREED. YOU ARE CAUSING YOUR OWN COUNTRY TO FALL. The financial crisis was caused by greed, greed and more greed. You may deny all of the rest of the above, but try to get around that TRUTH.
30 hotoffthepress2 // Sep 22, 2008 at 8:59 pm
ettoobrute — Victimhood doesn’t become you.
31 ettoobrute // Sep 23, 2008 at 7:01 pm
The TRUTH is we are all victims. Some just don’t know it yet…..700 billion + reasons for feeling sorry.See how you wear your victimhood. Only time will show that there needs to be some punitive measures…NOW for the crooks that got us into this mess in the first place. For the government to shell out that kind of dough without any structure on how it gets utilized seems mindless to me.WE ARE SO DIVIDED as a nation that WE THE PEOPLE will let them get away with screwing us again. Of course, some of us have grown to like it.I’m not aiming at you. Please do not take anything personal.
