Bias Evident in Latest Coverage of Sarah Palin

September 22nd, 2008 · 3 Comments

Media bias reared its ugly head again over the weekend as big outlets such as MSNBC, ABC and The New York Times opted to forgo mentioning the record crowd size at a Sarah Palin campaign event in Florida Sunday.

An MSNBC article, Palin goes after Obama on economy, energy, posted at 6:24 p.m. Eastern Sunday offered no mention of the size of the crowd at Palin’s solo campaign stop at The Villages, Fla.  That report contrasted sharply with the cable network’s coverage of Democrat Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech Aug. 28.  That MSNBC article gushed about the 84,000 attendance estimate in its lead paragraph!

So let’s compare:  A run-of-the-mill campaign stop by a vice presidential nominee draws 60,000 while an acceptance speech by a presidential nominee during the last night of his party’s national convention draws 84,000.  Something’s wrong with this picture!

ABC’s Political Radar blog reported on the event in a post, Palin Says Obama Voting “Present” on Economy, published at 6:25 p.m. Eastern Sunday.  Like her brethren at MSNBC, ABC reporter Imtiyaz Delawala failed to mention anything about the political body count.

Despite using 754 words to describe the Republican vice presidential nominee’s rally, The New York Times‘ The Caucus blog followed suit by failing in its report — posted at 7:03 p.m. Sunday — to mention any crowd-size estimate.  It did, however, find space to mention the sweltering 90-degree temperatures.

Thank God for the Drudge Report where a headline posted last night — and still running this morning — literally screams the news everyone deserves to know: Palin draws crowd of 60,000 in Florida.

You’re right. The lede in one of the NYT Caucus’ articles referred to “tens of thousands” and the picture hides the crowd.

Some bloggers mentioned the misinformation. One of them said:

If this isn’t media bias, I don’t know what is.

60,000 (!) people showed up to see her. Google it.
No only is there no mention of it.
Ther picture they chose makes it look like there’s 500 people there.

C’mon, Bob, there’s no media bias in covering Sarah Palin.

That’s because the “media,” as currently operating, is wholly liberal and leftist in ideology.

Thus, they’re simply being true to themselves.

They’d be biased if they actually had any ethics-and-professionalism-driven objectivity.

For a long time now, they have functioned as Fifth Columnists, traitors, to democracy.

Thus, their perfect fit with the coaltion of liberals and leftists current called the Democratic Party.
