Stepping away from politics for a moment, I had to point out one of the best graphics I’ve seen online in quite a while — the teaser that appeared on the front page of ESPN’s college football section and points to the College GameDay Final report about the battles between four Big XII Conference “unbeatens” — Oklahoma vs. Texas and Oklahoma State vs. Missouri — set to take place Saturday.

Why do I like it so much?  Because the two players shown in the graphic represent my two favorite NCAA Division One teams:

  • I’ve followed the Oklahoma Sooners, represented in the left half of the graphic above by quarterback Sam Bradford, as a fan since I was knee-high to a grasshopper; and
  • I began following the Oklahoma State Cowboys, represented “graphic right” by quarterback Zac Robinson, after spending four seasons during the early 1980s in the student section of what is now known as Boone Pickens Stadium.  Those were the days of OSU being “Tailback U,” home of superstars Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders, just to name a few.

Unfortunately, only one of my teams is likely to make it to the BCS Championship undefeated.  After all, they still must play each other in November and only one team can win.

University of Tennessee Volunteers — SUCK– this year. Vanderbilt, who usually sucks, is 5 – 0.

However, the Tennessee Titans are also 5 – 0. I have high hopes for them this year.

Debbie — A good friend of mine is a Vol. I console him by regularly offering him a crying towel. Good luck with those Titans, though.
