Despite the fact it’s taking place some 900 miles from the world-famous horse-racing venue in Upstate New York, Tuesday night’s presidential debate at Nashville’s Belmont University will be jokingly referred to by some in the mainstream news media as the “Belmont Stakes.” Those in the MSM will not, however, be so bold as to match this declaration: If Barack Obama was a horse, I’d name him “Big Brown.”
I fully expect to be branded a racist by all supporters of and officials with the Obama campaign who learn of this post. Even some readers of this blog might label me as such. But all who apply such a label to me will be wrong, since my use of Big Brown is merely coincidental.
Had Big Brown, the clear favorite in the 140th running of the Belmont Stakes, been given another name — such as “Madrassa Magic,” “Rookie Runner” or “Three-Point Shooter” — by its owner, I would have used it instead. But the horse was named Big Brown, and so I continue.
In much the same way Obama was known to few Americans outside of Chicago prior to announcing his run for the White House, few Americans outside of horse-racing circles had heard of Big Brown prior to his wins at the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs and the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course.
In much the same way as Obama appears to be leading — and even gaining — in several polls with less than one month remaining before the general election, Big Brown entered the gate at Belmont as a 3-10 favorite before finishing last.
With Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin opening up the political version of a “can of whoop-ass” as they hit the campaign trail today, I fully expect that the Democratic Party presidential nominee will follow in the footsteps of the horse and finish “out of the money” Nov. 4.

The Big Brown analogy I get. Not bad! But the advertising on the left reeks of ignorance and hatred. For shame!

Nancy — There’s no hate in my advertising, just conviction.

Hummmm, you sure don’t know much about horse racing, do you.
Otherwise, you wouldn’t be going this route until you see what happens in the Breeders Cup this year…

tvnewsbadge — You’re right. I haven’t been writing about horse racing furlong (pun intended).

Why do you believe Obama will come up lame? I really would like to believe that but I don’t see any reason to. Things definitely are more dire for McCain then they were before.

Theo — It’s a combination of “hope” and “change.” You can understand that, can’t you?

But I thought “hope” and “change” were only euphuisms?
