My morning review of the transcript from last night’s third and final presidential debate at Hofstra University reveals a disturbing pattern in the words Barack Obama. Highlighted below are examples of how the Democratic Party presidential nominee blames “Average Joes” — and not elected officials, crooked lenders or greedy Wall Street financiers — for the current economic crisis:
- “But there is no doubt that we’ve been living beyond our means and we’re going to have to make some adjustments.” [Translation: “Everyone should be willing to pay higher taxes.”]
- “But what is absolutely true is that, once we get through this economic crisis and some of the specific proposals to get us out of this slump, that we’re not going to be able to go back to our profligate ways.” [Translation: “Wealth is no longer an option, success no longer a goal for Americans.”]
- “And we’re going to have to embrace a culture and an ethic of responsibility, all of us, corporations, the federal government, and individuals out there who may be living beyond their means.” [Translation: “Let’s spread the wealth around.”]
- “Well, I don’t mind paying a little more (taxes).” [Translation: “If I don’t mind paying more taxes, you shouldn’t mind paying more.”]
If the statements above scare you, consider Republican Party presidential nominee John McCain’s statements — which, by the way, require no translation — made during the debate:
- “I want Joe the plumber to spread that wealth around.”
- “Nobody likes taxes. Let’s not raise anybody’s taxes. OK?” and
- “Now, of all times in America, we need to cut people’s taxes. We need to encourage business, create jobs, not spread the wealth around.”
The contrasts between the two candidates are clear, and only McCain promises “Average Joes” — including Joe Wurzelbacher, the 34-year-old Ohio Plumber whose name was mentioned some 15 times during the last debate — the continued opportunity to live and achieve The American Dream.

In my point of view John McCain’s statements are correct. The taxes should not be raised because they will add an extra burden on an individual.

Your review ROCKS! I love your translation of Obama’s words. Yes, his words are slick & he has obviously tricked the American public or he wouldn’t be President. If he SPOKE his translation, nobody would even think of electing him. He’d be laughed and ridiculed.
