Sarah Palin highlighted the needs of special needs children during a major public policy speech in Pittsburgh this morning. Notable during the speech was the fact that she appeared genuinely human and “of the people” as she took to the podium.
Probably the most important thing she said during the speech was something that applies to both “normal” children and children with disabilities:
“Even the best public school teacher or administrator cannot rightfully take the place of a parent in making these choices. The schools feel responsible for the education of many children, but a parent alone is responsible for the life of each child.”
Palin’s words, no doubt, sounded like music to the ears of many Americans who are parents or relatives of special needs children. Just a few minutes ago, one of them — Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) — appeared on Fox News Channel to discuss what John McCain’s running mate had to say.
Not surprisingly, the congressman shared sentiments with his FNC interviewer that mirrored the those he shared with me soon after Palin delivered her inspiring acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. For all of the details, see Down Syndrome Advocates Gain Ally in Palin.
