“And the Emmy for best news interview during a presidential election year goes to…Barbara West of WFTV-Channel 9 in Orlando for her Oct. 23 interview of Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.), vice presidential running mate of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).”
The words above should be heard at the next Emmy Awards, but likely will not. Still, the interview that makes West worthy of such an award is available in the video above. Below are highlights of the interview:
It begins with West asking Biden tough questions about Obama’s ties to ACORN, the organization under investigation in several states for voter fraud: “Aren’t you embarrassed by the blatant attempts to register phony voters by ACORN, an organization that Barack Obama has been tied to in the past?”
Of course, Biden answered the question as if in complete denial, going so far as to say the Obama-Biden campaign hasn’t given a single dollar to ACORN for voter registration efforts. What he didn’t say was that they have given more than $800,000 to ACORN for get-out-the-vote efforts.
West followed with one about Senator Obama’s conversation with Samuel “Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher: “Senator Obama now famously told Joe the Plumber he wanted to spread his wealth around…Isn’t Senator Obama’s comment a potentially crushing political blunder?”
If those questions weren’t good enough, the blond broadcaster proceded to ask an even better question: “You may recognize this famous quote: ‘From each according to his abilities to each according to his needs.’ That’s from Karl Marx. How is Senator Obama not being a Marxist if he intends to spread the wealth around?”
That question got under Biden’s skin, because it rang true and he knew he couldn’t answer it honestly. And he didn’t.
The next question caused Biden to wonder who writes West’s questions — whoever it is that writes her questions, I love ‘em: “Now, you recently said, ‘Mark my words, it’ll not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama, but what worries many people is your caveat asking them to stand with him because it’s not going to be apparent initially that he’s right. Are you forewarning Americans that nothing will be done and that America’s days as the world’s leading power are over?”
I thought I saw smoke coming out of Biden’s ears as he answered this question.
More on “spreading the wealth” followed: “What do you say to the people who are concerned that Barack Obama will want to turn America into a socialist country much like Sweden?”
Biden, of course, responded curtly by saying he didn’t know anyone except the “far right” who wants to do that. Another lie. And the end of a great interview.
Watch the interview and enjoy! Then send West an “Attagirl” using the form on this page.
