Barack Obama’s Superstitious Beliefs Disclosed

November 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments

This morning, I heard the hosts of Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends program make light of the fact that Barack Obama is superstitious and has carried several charms with him during the presidential campaign.  Believing nothing is coincidental, I suspect the Democratic Party presidential nominee carries three charms in his pocket for reasons other than luck.

After uncovering the source of the information shared on Fox & Friends — a Politico report published yesterday, I reached the conclusion that each of the charms Obama carries in his pocket has a purpose:

  • The “lucky poker chip” supposedly given to him by a voter reflects the debt he owes to executives in the American gaming industry who’ve taught him so much about the “ins” and “outs” of redistributing wealth;
  • The “American eagle pin from a Native American woman” has nothing to do with Obama’s feelings about descendants of America’s indigenous tribes; instead, it simply reminds him to stay focused on sticking it to anyone who opposes his plans for “change”; and, finally
  • The small golden statue of the Hindu Monkey King brings to Obama’s mind images of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, his radical pastor of 20 years at Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ.  When Obama thinks about Reverend Wright and his radical brand of faith, he’s reminded that most Americans believe Black Liberation Theology makes as much sense as worshiping a monkey.
