Only Hours After Election, America’s Test Begins

November 5th, 2008 · 3 Comments

For the most part, I find myself in agreement with the point made by Dale McFeatters in the lead paragraph of a just-published editorial for Scripps Howard News.  It reads as follows:

President-elect Barack Obama should take a moment to savor his triumph in what was truly a pivotal, history-making election. But only a moment. There’s work to do.

Why?  Because, only hours after a majority of Americans voted to elect Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) president of the United States, the test that Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) spoke of two weeks ago seems to have begun:

  • According to a report tonight in the Jerusalem Post, officials reported “massive” Kassam fire from Gaza early Wednesday morning, with three of the rockets landing in open areas in the western Negev, damaging several greenhouses; and
  • In another article, Israel National News reports Israeli fighter pilots and ground troops were busy in Gaza late Tuesday night for the first time since since the temporary truce with Hamas terrorists who control the region began on June 19.

How far the tensions will escalate remains to be seen.

Well…our side didn’t win. I think you’re right on the fact our side didn’t do a good job of recruiting a QB. But it’s over. The nation spoke. The pendulum has swung for now.

In ‘92, the nation — with help from a goofball Perot — went with the ‘new’ Democrat, Clinton. Two years later, voter judgement was passed on his first two years: the Republicans took control of the US House and Senate. In ‘06, the public made a judgement on Dubya, and gave marginal control of Congress to the Democrats.

As you know, I didn’t support President-elect Obama. His legislative record and expressed ideology in many venues, is not my vision. But he is now President-elect Obama. The challenges are what they would have been for President-elect McCain. The public will pass judgement on President-elect Obama’s first two years in the mid term Congressional elections.

Said the zen master, “we’ll see…”

Lest we forget…there is still a lawsuit in front of the supreme court questioning Obama’s citizenship. There really should be a public effort now more than ever for the man to prove this point. At least 50% of we Americans should want to know. I say, let’s support a “get behind Berg” movement (the attorney who filed the suit).
    How quickly we forget details!

Brenda — Sorry, that lawsuit was turned down by the Supreme Court due to Berg’s so-called “lack of standing” on the matter.
