Apparently, a single mention of the need for a “truly global society” will not be enough for British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. According to a Reuters report, excerpts from the keynote foreign policy speech Brown will deliver Monday include at least two such mentions.
First:
“…And if we learn from our experience of turning unity of purpose into unity of action, we can together seize this moment of change in our world to create a truly global society.”
Second:
“My message is that we must be: internationalist not protectionist; interventionist not neutral; progressive not reactive; and forward looking not frozen by events. We can seize the moment and in doing so build a truly global society.”
Notably, the words Brown plans to use appear eerily similar to those used by so many politicians before him, including President George H.W. Bush on Sept. 11, 1990.
I, for one, do not care for these kinds of messages from Western world leaders. After all, I am an American and not a so-called “citizen of the world,” thank you.
