Early this afternoon, I came across a post, 50 Buzziest Blog Posts of All Time, published Sept. 17, 2008, at Nerve.com. Listed 17th among the “buzziest” blog posts is a four-year-old entry from the apostropher blog. It’s headline raised the still-unanswered question, “Is Barack Obama the Anti-Christ?”
Aside from the obvious attention-getting aspect of the headline, I found the post interesting for several other reasons, not the least of which is the fact that it was published only 10 days after Barack Obama — then only a member of the Illinois Senate, now a president-elect — delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston.
Also making it newsworthy is the fact that the post has logged nearly 2,500 comments — up from Nerve.com’s time-of-publication figure of “nearly 2000.”
Perhaps the most-interesting observation about the item described as a “throwaway post on an obscure blog” is the fact that, as Nerve.com is quick to observe, a majority of the people who have left comments on the post believe Obama IS the Anti-Christ:
Many of the commenters quote scripture at length, detailing the Bible’s description of what the Anti-Christ’s attributes will be when he appears on earth: “uncanny skill,” “ability to deceive,” a “victorious advance,” and “he will brook no rivalry in the mad pursuit of increasing authority, prestige and power.” Sure sounds like Barack! A stunning example of how blogs have given fringe views a chance for real momentum — today, a Google search of “barack obama” and “anti-christ” yields 584,000 hits.
The question remains: Is Barack Obama the Anti-Christ? Whether you think he is or is not the Anti-Christ, I think you can agree with me when I say, “The devil’s in the details.”

That’s really wild that the blog started over four years ago. What’s interesting, is Obama has run basically unopposed throughout his entire political career. When he ran for the Illinois State Senate he had his opponents removed from the ballot on a technicality. Then for US Senate he embarrassed his opponent because of details of some kinkyness with his wife. The only road block he had was Hillary. I am off to read the blog; although, I am not buying into the anti-christ stuff just yet. The world is looking crazier by the day. I guess if he starts solving the world’s problems with ease, I will start to become concerned.

Good points all, Clay!

Thanks for posting this and giving the hotlink.
Been getting ready to write on this myself.
If he’s not, Obama’s the dry run for the real anti-Christ.
But…

Isn’t the anti-Christ supposed to rule the entire world…he is not there yet….I have to say this…
I watch the history channel a lot…History and History International…before the election they were playing a lot of Hitler and some Stalin shows….after Obama was elected they played one on the anti-Christ…Yes the anti-Christ is supposed to be an elected official…one who rules the “whole” world, Obama did say he would change the world but do you really see him taking over the whole world? I could be wrong but I think that is the way it is supposed to go….And why do you think they were playing those shows before and after the election?

Apostropher was very astute! Way ahead of the curve at the time.
6 hotoffthepress2 // Nov 14, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Pasadena — Indeed he was!

I was thinking the same exact thing! I saw the Antichrist show on the History Channel, right after switching from Fox where they were showing Obama.
8 hotoffthepress2 // Nov 15, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Annette — Yes, in fact, I saw the History Channel show today.

And you people call liberals moonbats??? If you’re actually considering that Obama is the anti-Christ then I suggest you get some serious psychiatric help. If not for yourself then do it for your families.

What is perhaps most interesting about this theory is that if Obama actually solves the many problems that Bush has created for America then nut-job conservatives have an answer for it: it isn’t good democratic policy, it’s the power of Satan! Hilarious.

Before the antichrist apeears, the following must occur first:
3rd roman empire establish, but only for a short time
antichrist will come from the roman empire ; Europe once again will led the start of the third worldwar (the final war), attacking Israel; although their worldwide reign (eclypsing the superpower status of USA) for only a short time of about 3 yrs.
The basis for europe’s rise is being started by the election of Obama, a world socialist/communist.
Europe also will assualt the USA. The hatred of Jews in Europe has never ended, they just became better in disguising their hatred. Because of the rise of the roman empire for the last time, and their starting of final armaggedon, their young, and charismatic leader, and antichrist will have three and halft short years, until it becomes necessary for revelation to be fullfilled, and Jesus will appear, to save Jerusalem. During this worldwar, caused by the antichrist, 2/3rd of the worldspopulation will be dstroyed (nuclear bombs). The end days began with Worldwar I, and we have steadilty marched towards the final days.
So no, BO is not the antichrist, but part of the establishment of one worldgovernment. Godless nations cannot survive, and we christians have been under assault since Worldwar I.

Inge — There are a lot of opinions about exactly how the end of times will play out. I find it fascinating how some people turn so violent and ugly at the mere mention of the possibility. Apparently, Obama — anti-Christ or not — has them mesmerized.
13 EnquiringMind // Nov 16, 2008 at 8:47 pm
What’s wrong Hotoffthepress? I guess it’s not so fascinating to you when the violent & ugly behavior is by people who voted for McCain & against Obama huh? Why did you delete my comment? Are you afraid of showing both sides of the coin?
14 hotoffthepress2 // Nov 16, 2008 at 9:09 pm
EM — I delete objectionable and profane comments. Can’t remember which one yours was, but it qualified nevertheless. Keep it civil. Keep it clean. It won’t get deleted.
15 hotoffthepress2 // Nov 16, 2008 at 10:15 pm
EM — You’re using your comment to send readers of this blog over to the objectionable, anti-American HuffPo. As soon as I add this comment, your last comment will go “poof” into the ether.
16 EnquiringMind // Nov 16, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Objectionable, anti-American HuffPo? I guess then that free speech only applies when you say so, is that it?
Well then, let’s try this again.
You like to talk about people turning violent & ugly when it comes to talk of Obama being the anti-Christ? How then would you describe the incidents in this news article?

EM — I’m certain the frequency/severity of events/incidents like those in the linked article pale in comparison to what people on the left did/said to George W. Bush during the last eight years. You can’t even begin to dispute that!

to hotoffthepress2:
thanks for your courtesy, and most of all your objectivity, and respectable manners are turly appreciated here.
I wish things could get debated in a similar fashion as you have displayed here: respect, fair, honest, and most of all no vulgarity.
It is such a turn-off, when some can’t even attempt to be civil in their discussion. It would be boring if we all agree, however reality is we all differ in our opinion.
That does not mean one is better than the other.
So thanks again, hotoffthepress, looking forward to your next hot topics, and opinions.
19 hotoffthepress2 // Nov 17, 2008 at 8:32 am
Thanks, Inge!
20 EnquiringMind // Nov 17, 2008 at 9:59 am
Bob,
Actually yes, I do dispute your assertion.
We’re talking about racially motivated crimes here. There was no racial backlash from blacks or hispanics when George W Bush got elected. Were there people from the left that were unhappy? You bet. But I don’t recall anyone going & burning crosses on people’s lawns, or spraying racial epithets on people’s cars and sidewalks or starting pools on when Bush would be assassinated. You’re also trying to compare what has happened in a two week period to what has happened in an eight year period which is a little ridiculous.
And it’s not just what is being said about Obama. The people that voted for Obama have become targets based on their voting preference and, in some cases, based on their color. This also was not an issue when GWB was elected. I don’t remember hearing anything about blacks or hispanics going after white people because they voted for Bush, not to mention the huge jump in web traffic of white supremacist websites.
You’re attempting to compare apples to olives & it’s not even close. There’s been a fairly major backlash from some subsets of the white population since Obama was elected. There was nothing of the kind after GWB was elected. Yes, people on the left were unhappy when he got elected both times, but the same can be said about the right when Clinton was elected both times. If you want to try & make a comparison then try comparing incidents during the 8 years that GWB was president to incidents during the 8 years that Clinton was president.

EM — We’re going to have to agree to disagree. For every example you can posit, I can match you even up. Unless, of course, you bring up examples of your party’s massive vote fraud/registration efforts. I’m afraid I can’t top you there. Have a good one.
22 EnquiringMind // Nov 17, 2008 at 10:08 am
Really? You can cite examples of blacks & hispanics committing the same kind of racial hate crimes against whites after Bush was elected as are being committed against black people who voted for Obama? Well, I say put your money where your mouth is. Post some links, lets see your evidence.
23 hotoffthepress2 // Nov 17, 2008 at 10:09 am
EM — Believe it or not, you’re not my only reader. You’ve zapped enough time. Anyone out there want to help me with EM’s request? Let me know. Bye, EM.
24 EnquiringMind // Nov 17, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Yes, if anyone wants to answer my request I’d love to see your evidence. When I say evidence though I mean evidence with links. Not some opinion.
25 EnquiringMind // Nov 18, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Still waiting for someone to step up & respond to my request. Any takers?
26 hotoffthepress2 // Nov 18, 2008 at 5:23 pm
EM — Don’t take it personally, but I think everyone’s ignoring you.
