Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) stood behind the podium this afternoon and told Americans that they were rejecting calls for the auto industry to opt for bankruptcy and, instead, giving automobile industry executives one more chance — until Dec. 2 — to submit a plan that can take the industry into the future in a viable manner with federal taxpayer support (a.k.a., “a bailout”).
It seemed strange to hear Reid and Pelosi stress accountability on the part of automakers and viability in any plan they concoct. After all, no pair of Congressional leaders in recent — or distant — memory, have shown more disregard for both qualities than Reid and Pelosi.
