Things worked out for the Oklahoma Sooners after all as they leapfrogged over the Texas Longhorns (now #3) and Florida Gators (now #4) into the #2 spot in college football’s BCS standings released this afternoon.
Four consecutive 60-plus-point performances, capped by a 61-41 defeat of the #12 Oklahoma State Cowboys last night, convinced human and computerized pollsters alike that Bob Stoops’ squad from Norman is the best team in the Big 12 Conference’s South Division.
As a result, the Sooners will face Big 12 North champion #20 Missouri in the conference title game Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
After winning there, the next stop for the Sooners is Miami for the BCS Championship Jan. 8 against the #1 Alabama or — if the Crimson Tide loses to Florida Saturday in the Southeast Conference title game — #4 Florida.
BOOMER SOONER!
[Editor's Note: Perhaps the folks who cast votes and manipulate data in order to determine the nation's best college football teams read my blog post yesterday -- at least, I'd like to think so.]
