Americans Suffering From ‘Bailout Fatigue’

Last week, the nation’s Big Three Automakers submitted plans for turning around their respective companies and, simultaneously, delivered the equivalent of loan applications to Congress.  Now, Americans suffering from “bailout fatigue” await word on whether their elected officials in Washington, D.C., will make such a bailout possible.

At this point, according to an Associated Press report, the White House and Congressional Democrats are negotiating a deal to provide about $15 billion in loans to prevent Detroit’s weakened auto industry from collapsing.

While $15 billion is better than $25 billion or $50 billion, it’s still too much money for taxpayers to loan to companies that have yet to prove themselves capable of competing in the North American automobile marketplace.

Detroit needs to restructure — not get a bailout on the taxpayers’ backs.
