Proving they deserved the top spot in the Big 12 Conference South Division, the #2 Oklahoma Sooners routed the #19 Missouri Tigers, 62-21, in the conference championship game Saturday night at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
In posting the 41-point margin of victory over Gary Pinkel’s squad, Bob Stoops’ Sooners became the first team in NCAA history to score more than 60 points in five consecutive games (Note: Six games ago, they scored 58 points). That stat adds to another record they set — 702 points in a season — as the highest-scoring team in college football history.
Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford threw for two touchdowns and completed 34 of 49 attempts for 384 passing yards. Combined with his efforts in 12 previous games, the Heisman hopeful ended his season as the nation’s top quarterback in two categories — passer rating (186.29) and touchdowns (48). (Note: Check out Bradford’s complete stats at ESPN.com.)
Now, unless other ESPN’s anti-Oklahoma sentiment someone spreads like a virus across the college football landscape, the Sooners are headed to Miami for the BCS Championship Jan. 8. Their opponent? Most likely the Florida Gators, though I think the Texas Longhorns deserve the shot.
