After expressing solidarity with workers recently laid off by their Chicago-area employer, Republic Windows and Doors, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich told reporters yesterday there’s “nothing but sunshine hanging over me” after being asked if he thought the “cloud” hanging over him would taint his pick of a U.S. senator to replace Barack Obama.

As shown in this video (above), Blagojevich addressed the matter of the federal investigation surrounding him in the style of a politician beholden to the Chicago Political Machine:

“Those who feel like they want to tape me sneekily and wear taping devices, I would remind them that it kind of smells like Nixon and Watergate,” he said.  “I don’t care whether you tape me privately or publicly, I can just tell ya that whatever I say is always lawful and the things I’m interested in doing are always lawful.”

Less than 24 hours later, he was arrested on federal corruption charges which, if proven, will forever brand him as a corrupt, deceitful politician.
