Confused after reading a news release issued today by the STOP Obesity Alliance, I decided to rewrite the portion of that news release containing a description of the group’s “Obesity GPS.”
In the news release, the Obesity GPS is described in long-winded fashion as the first navigation tool developed to guide public and private decision makers as they determine the most successful routes towards reducing the overweight and obesity epidemic, which costs the United States at least $92.6 billion annually, and affects the lives of two out of every three adult Americans.
After reading it, I put on my public relations guru hat and drafted the new, easier-to-understand statement below:
The Obesity GPS is a Global Positioning System for overweight people that directs them away from fast-food restaurants, convenience stores and ice cream parlors and toward gymnasiums, walking trails and fitness facilities instead.
Glad I could help clear up the confusion.

Wow, what did they do before technology? Oh, that’s right they had to move, walk, and work. It’s amazing how much money the masses spend to lose weight when it’s really a simple formula. Eat less, move more.

I’m not too sure a GPS device is the answer to fighting obesity. It takes will power and patience to be able to overcome obesity. Unfortunately, in this fast-moving society we live in know, everyone wants answers quick and now.
In some instances, there’s nothing wrong with getting from Point A to Point B quickly, but there are some things in life where you just need to take a deep breath and slow down.
