Sir Winston Churchill knew what he was talking about when it came to matters of taxation.  Now, with barely three weeks remaining until Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th president of the United States, Americans can only hope Obama comes to understand — and quickly — the important economic lesson once shared by the late British prime minister and captured in the cartoon above:

“We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to pull himself up by the handle.”
