Three Weeks Later, Rush Does ’180′ on Blagojevich

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.)

Typical of a slimy politician, it took only three weeks for Chicago’s Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) to do a “180″ and reverse himself on the matter of Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s (D-Ill.) appointing Barack Obama’s replacement in the U.S. Senate.

On Dec. 9, the day FBI agents arrested Governor Blagojevich on corruption charges, the Chicago Sun-Times published a column by Lynn Sweet under the headline, Rep. Rush says Blagojevich unfit to select Obama replacement.

Yesterday, the headline of an editorial published yesterday in the Rockville (Ill.) Register Star seemed to echo the sentiment I suspect many in the Land of Lincoln believe true — that is, Any choice by this governor would be wrong.  That echo, however, fell on deaf ears when it reached the office of Congressman Rush.

During the news conference Governor Blagojevich held to make public his selection of Roland Burris as the state’s junior senator, Congressman Rush horned his way behind the microphones and expressed unwaivering support for Blago’s selection of Burris.  To cap things off, he dropped the race card and dared members of the Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate to block the appointment of Burris, an African-American.

One newspaper called the screenplay like chain of events shrewd.  I call it slimy, like a deep-dish Chicago-style pizza made by a chef using WD-40 instead of pizza sauce.
