The headlines of a pair of Wall Street Journal articles should have never appeared next to each other, but they did today.

While reading the WSJ Opinion Journal online this afternoon, the writer-editor in me noticed the pair of headlines shown in the graphic at right.  Appearing below the subhead, “Taste,” the first headline, The Holocaust Memory Keeper, appeared along with Jordana Horn’s byline and a dozen-word teaser paragraph.  Immediately below the teaser paragraph was the second headline, Out of the Fire, Into the Frying Pan.

Obviously, a headline about the Holocaust should never appear above, below or adjacent a headline that includes the word, fire.

On behalf of my fellow journalists at the Journal, I offer an apology to anyone offended by this grevious layout mistake.
