Though intended as humor, the cover of issue #498 of MAD Magazine appears to reflect very accurately the reality of Barack Obama’s early days in the White House better than any other publication I’ve seen since he became president.
Highlighting President Obama’s “First 100 Minutes in Office,” the cover art (above right) shows the president wide-eyed, holding his head in his hands and smoking a mouthful of cigarettes while facing a desk blanketed by newspapers bearing ominous headlines. Resting on top of the newspapers are bottles of Pepto-Bismol® and aspirin, a folder full of top-secret information about Iran and a mug of coffee emblazoned with the “Change” logo made famous during the recent presidential campaign season.
Due to the mainstream news media’s unwillingness to provide objective reporting about the new president and his socialist plans for this country, Americans are likely to find themselves relying upon publications like MAD more than ever before to provide them with political reality checks.
Note: According to a New York Times article published Friday, MAD will convert from a monthly to a quarterly publication, beginning with issue #500 in April. Perhaps the folks at DC Comics, the magazine’s parent publication, should approach President Obama for a bailout.
