A news release issued yesterday by the Lifeboat Foundation touted the launch of Singularity University as “a new school for futurists in Silicon Valley to prepare scientists for an era when machines become smarter than people.” Unfortunately, it appears the effort might be too late.
I reached this conclusion after following an Instapundit tip and reading the full text of the aforementioned news release. Upon reaching the final paragraph of the news release, I clicked on the Learn more link which took me to a web page displaying a disconcerting 504 message from Bluehost.com*:
“This Domain (singularity.org) Has Been Disabled”
Though the page also contained a message encouraging me to contact customer service, it did not provide contact information. Therefore, I was forced to conclude that the machines had already outsmarted the people and organizations said to be “throwing their weight behind” the school: Google and NASA.
We’re doomed!
