I think it would be funny if, one day soon, the economy turned around and credit for the turn-around went to those folks then-candidate Barack Obama described as “bitter” folks who “cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them.”  With President Obama in the White House, anything is possible, right?

Gun sales have been booming ever since Obama’s first appearance on the presidential campaign trail, according to a Voice of America article by Lauren Kirby published today.  Unbelievably, there was a 50 percent increase in requests for reviews of civilian applications for the purchase of firearms between November 2007 and November 2008.

Further, Kirby explains, roughly one-third of all Americans are exercising the Constitutional right to bear arms, and the FBI estimates there are more than 200 million privately owned guns in the United States, and that number is rising.

I guess that explains why the “State of Discontent” coin was included in “Barack Obama’s Seven Mystery States Coin Collection” designed by My Personal Litmus.
