It’s Not Too Late to Fight ‘Economic Stimulus’

February 9th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Only $107 billion of the soon-to-be-approved $827 billion so-called “economic stimulus package” will be spent this year, according to a recent Washington Post report, leaving taxpayers time to take action toward rescinding the remaining 88 percent of the money.

One way for taxpayers to fight back against this near-trillion-dollar example of “generational theft” can be found at the Americans for Prosperity web site — or, directly, at NoStimulus.com. There, Americans who oppose the pork-laden measure can sign a petition and get involved in a national movement. [Note: The AFP petition site, NoStimulus.com, was being overwhelmed with traffic at the time of this posting, so please be patient and keep trying.]

Another way can be found in the election process.  Because more than 25 percent of the total — $236.4 billion — will be spent during 2010, Americans can show their displeasure with their elected officials by replacing members of Congress who voted for the stimulus with individuals who are more like Ronald Reagan (i.e., “Government isn’t the solution, it’s the problem!) than Karl Marx.

If you have other ideas for how we can save our Republic, please share them in the comments section below — and keep them civil, please.
