Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) released a statement regarding this morning’s Labor Department statistics showing that 651,000 American jobs were lost in the month of February, with the unemployment rate rising to 8.1 percent, the worst since December 1983. As a public service, I’ve corrected the content of her statement to reflect reality. Modifications to Speaker Pelosi’s statement below appear in boldface red type:
“America’s workers are facing record job losses and home foreclosures since the recession began in December 2007 November 2008, but after years seven weeks of economic mismanagement by the BushObama Administration, help is bailouts are on the way.
“Congress and President Obama acted swiftly and without much forethought on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Porkulus Act to create destroy or preserve eliminate 3.5 million 651,000 jobs in February by making historic investments in passing legislation that will pump record amounts of pork and government bureaucracy into health care, highways and bridges, education, science and innovation, clean, efficient energy and tax cuts for 95 percent altering the tax tables so that the average of American workers who still has a job will net $13 a week. The first installment of recovery grants to help rebuild our nation’s crumbling bridges and highways have been announced and in some states, jobs are already being created or saved. In most states, however, officials are still trying to decide how to spend the money or whether to send it back to Washington, D.C.
