Lately, it seems a lot of big banks have been horsin’ around with our money supply. So when I came across a humorous article on the virtual pages of The Oklahoman newspaper, I couldn’t help but think it might help my readers feel better.
The article appeared today under the headline, “Redneck Bank offers fun, a nice rate of return.” And, no, the words “Redneck Bank” in the headline are not meant to describe the type of people working at the bank; instead, they are — no kiddin’ — the name of the bank.
Redneck Bank® is a relatively new, FDIC-insured online bank based in Mustang, Okla., that uses humor as a key ingredient of it’s marketing effort. In addition, it offers a “Redneck Rewards” checking account that pays a generous 5.25 percent APY to folks who adhere to certain stipulations related to their accounts which I will leave it to you to read about on the bank’s web site.
Click here or on the image shown above to visit the web site of the bank which, by the way, is affiliated with Bank of the Wichitas, a financial institution established in 1913.
Who knows, you might just decide to do your banking business in Oklahoma after reading the article and visiting the Redneck Bank® web site.

They slashed those rates May 5, 2009.
Mega Money Market rate was baited at 3.10% now switched to 2%. Checking was baited at 5.25% is now at 4%. They said they were too busy to continue those rates. Bait and switch comes to mind.
Would not recommend this bank to anyone. It took over 3 weeks to open my account, then another week to validate my account.
Finally got the accounts up and running, now come to find out the account they took a week validating is not valid for transferring money into or out of. It must be validated again, oh well, another week or so without my money.
I don’t think “bankin is funner” over there.

Sorry to hear about your experience, Tony, but my intent in publishing this post was only to recognize the humor of the bank’s name.
