On Slavery, Presidents Share Nothing in Common

April 5th, 2009 · 11 Comments

Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama share several things in common:  Both were lawyers; both served in the Illinois legislature; and both were elected president of the United States.  When it comes to the issue of slavery, however, the men share nothing in common.

While President Lincoln worked hard to earn a place in modern history books as the man most responsible for ending slavery in the United States, President Obama seems focused upon returning today’s Americans — as well as generations of future Americans — into a different kind of slavery known as financial bondage.

Unfortunately, the kind of financial bondage President Obama is foisting upon Americans involves trillions of dollars of debt — more than all previous presidential administrations combined — and will require far more than “four score and seven years” to pay it off.

Welcome to the “Land of Hope and Change!”

Nice take on history. Perhaps the first time that increasing the top marginal tax rate of a country from 35% to 39% has been directly compared to the enslavement of a race.

On debt: The US maintained a debt of about 2 trillion from just after WWII until 1980. From 1981 to 1993 we added another 5 trillion bringing our national debt to an astounding 7 trillion. From 1993 to 2000 fiscally conservative administrations stopped the rise in debt, and in fact, starting generating yearly budget surpluses allowing us to start paying off our debt.

Unfortunately, starting in 2001, a new profligacy overtook us and now our national debt stands at about 11 trillion dolars, 9 trillion of which we incurred during the administrations of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.

My question is: Since these men are responsible for all of our national debt since World War II, are they also responsible for enslaving our children?

    Jeff,

The answer is “Yes.” Obama has created more debt for current and future generations than all previous presidents — from Washington to George W. Bush — combined!

Sorry, forgot to add: Your statement that President Obama debt burder is
“more than all previous presidential administrations combined”
    should be supported by evidence.

Since Obama inherited 11 trillion of debt from all previous administrations combined, you’re saying he will leave us with a deficit of at least 22 trillion?

Thank you. Bob McCarty is on record agreeing that Ronald Reagan and Bush I and Bush II have enslaved our children.

Can you support your contention that Obama has created more debt than all other President’s combined? You must understand the seriousness of your accusation, so if you are confident in your assertion, it should be easy to support it, or if you can’t (i.e., if you “borrowed” the idea), perhaps you can cite the originator.

Jeff — You’re quick to jump to conclusions that are wrong. Read this article about comments made by Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH). Among other things, it says: So let’s add that $1.2 trillion that was largely started under Bush to the $5.8 trillion in national debt accumulated through fiscal year 2008. That comes to roughly $7 trillion. Under that scenario, the CBO’s projections don’t quite translate to a doubling of the national debt in 5 years ($7 trillion to $11.8 trillion). Nor does it fully support the claim that the debt would triple in 10 years ($7 trillion to $17.3 trillion). But it’s not outrageously off either. In any case, the damage is done.

Is this serious? Middle class Americans have been experiencing a form of genocide under previous administrations, with all tax cuts constantly going to the wealthiest Americans. The middle class have been the ones enslaved, and Obama is actually making efforts to help them. The wealthy and Republicans are not concerned with saving this country, they are only concerned with making the president look bad and returning all power back to themselves. Personally, I feel that both Democrats and Republicans are half-wits and our whole system needs some sort of overhaul, but it is so obvious what’s going on here that this article is just a complete joke.

Good one, Nancy! You really had me going! Great impression of a wacko, left-wing liberal graduate of Revisionist History 101.
