Putting a photo of First Lady Michelle Obama on its cover doesn’t hurt a general-interest magazine, according to a brief in Advertising Age, the journal of the advertising industry. The numbers suggest, however, that it doesn’t produce more than an occasional lift unless, that is, she appears on the cover of a magazine directed toward African-Americans or when she appears with her husband, President Barack Obama. Then they jump!
