File this under “cool video.”
On April 7, Prox Dynamics announced that it had flight-tested the latest PD-100 Black Hornet prototype, the Hornet-3a helicopter, outdoors for the first time. After watching the video above, I can’t help but think law enforcement officials must be salivating over the surveillance and crime-fighting potential the “nanocopter” offers.
Believed to be one of the smallest complete Unmanned Aircraft Systems ever developed, according to the Norwegian company, the PD-100 Black Hornet weighs only 15 grams — or just over a half-ounce. Incredibly, the company says the sound produced by the helicopter is completely drowned by the ambient noise outside a distance of approximately three meters.
