In an article at BeliefNet.com yesterday, Steven Waldman wrote about Sonia Sotomayor’s entry in the 1976 Princeton University yearbook. Not surprisingly, President Barack Obama’s pick to replace Supreme Court Associate Justice David Souter had — and, perhaps, still has — a “thing” for communist politicians.
Before waxing poetic about her college experience, Sotomayor used her yearbook entry to showcase a quote from Norman Thomas, a man regarded by many as the leading American Socialist politician of the 20th century: “I am not a champion of lost causes, but of causes not yet won.”
That statement, combined with evidence of Sotomayor’s liberal views, should frighten everyone who believes in the Constitution and hopes to preserve the freedoms and liberties contained therein.
As the video below shows, Rush Limbaugh fears a Sotomayer on the Court. He warned listeners during his radio show Tuesday that Sotomayor is a dangerous racist and he wants her to fail:
Michelle Malkin cited research performed by the Judicial Confirmation Network as reason to be wary of President Obama’s first Supreme Court pick. JCN offered the following highlights — or lowlights, depending upon your perspective — about Sotomayor:
Judge Sotomayor will allow her feelings and personal politics to stand in the way of basic fairness. In a recent case, Ricci v. DeStefano, Sotomayor sided with a city that used racially discriminatory practices to deny promotions to firefighters. The per curiam opinion Sotomayor joined went so far out of its way to bury the firefighters’ important claims of unfair treatment that her colleague, Judge Jose Cabranes, a Clinton appointee, chastised her.
On his web site, Mike Huckabee had much to say about the Sotomayor appointment. The words below sum up the feelings of the 2008 Republican presidential candidate and former Arkansas governor:
The appointment of Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court is the clearest indication yet that President Obama’s campaign promises to be a centrist and think in a bi-partisan way were mere rhetoric. Sotomayor comes from the far left and will likely leave us with something akin to the “Extreme Court” that could mark a major shift. The notion that appellate court decisions are to be interpreted by the “feelings” of the judge is a direct affront of the basic premise of our judicial system that is supposed to apply the law without personal emotion. If she is confirmed, then we need to take the blindfold off Lady Justice.
If you think Judge Sotomayor is a dangerous pick for service on the nation’s highest court, ACT NOW! CONTACT YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS in Washington, D.C., and demand they oppose her confirmation.
