After reading a report in The Wall Street Journal this morning about the IRS considering a tax on company-issued cell phones, I was inspired to write “Where’d My Money Go?” as an ode to the American taxpayer:

WHERE’D MY MONEY GO?

They want to tax the mobile phone my boss just gave to me.
They want to tax the toilet flush each time I have to pee.
They want to tax the benefits that help me keep my health.
And every time I turn around, they’re robbing me of wealth.

Where’d my money go? It went right down the drain!
Each year I do my taxes, I feel a bigger pain.
I’m tired now, but still I see, a reason not to pout.
In 2010, we can vote, to throw those bastards out!

Throw those bastards out!
Let’s hear ‘em scream and cuss!
When they find out what it’s like to ride a city bus!

Throw those bastards out!
Let’s hear ‘em scream and cuss!
While they’re running down the street, chased by all of us!

They want to tax the food I eat each day on my lunch hour.
They want to tax me when I die because they have the power.
They want to tax my earnings and every thing I do.
And every time I think of them, I think I’m being screwed!
