It was just over four months ago that patriotic activities in the Mark Twain-crazy community of Quincy, Ill., popped up on my radar. In a post May 5, I chronicled the incident in which local businessman Steve McQueen was denied his Constitutional right to be heard at a city council meeting because of the fact that he is the chief organizer of the Quincy Tea Party movement:
It was the last thing McQueen expected to have happen when he appeared at the meeting last night. But it did happen. In a 7-6 vote down party lines, members of the Quincy City Council voted to deny him his right to speak, despite the fact that he had taken all of the proper steps required of a citizen to appear on the council’s agenda.
If members of the Quincy City Council didn’t like a small tea party effort, they’re really not going to like the Quincy Tea Party (a.k.a., “Patriots on the Prairie”) which began at 1 p.m. Central today at Washington Park in Quincy.
Unfortunately, other commitments prevent me from making the 2.5-hour trek north for the event, but I do expect to share everything I can from those in attendance. The list of cyberluminaries expected to attend includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Andrew Breitbart of Breitbart.com, Big Hollywood and Big Government (to name a few);
- Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit;
- Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit;
- Kevin Jackson, author of The Big Black Lie; and
- Dana Loesch of DanaRadio.com, Mamalogues.com and The Dana Show.
If you’re attending, send me any photos, video, etc.
