Bolton Says Obama Put Israel on ‘Chopping Block’

September 23rd, 2009 · 1 Comment

President Barack Obama addressed the United Nations for the first time this morning, using the occasion to wax poetic about global warming, nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament, and world peace. Along the way, however, he also put Israel — in the words of former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton — “on the chopping block.”

Ambassador Bolton shared that observation with Fox News anchor Megan Kelly (see video below) soon after Obama’s speech ended, and he is right for many reasons.

President Obama mentioned Israel for the first time early in his address, saying the following:

“Upon taking office, I appointed a Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, and America has worked steadily and aggressively to advance the cause of two states — Israel and Palestine — in which peace and security take root, and the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians are respected.”

The only problem with this, however is that the Palestinians have repeatedly stated that they will only allow “security” to take root after Israel is wiped off the map.

Almost midway through the speech, the president returned to addressing the issue of Middle East peace:

“We continue to call on Palestinians to end incitement against Israel, and we continue to emphasize that America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements.”

In other words, President Obama is more than willing to force Israel into ceding territory to a group of people who want nothing less than to occupy all of the Jewish State.

He concludes his anti-Israel rhetoric by injecting emotional and religious overtones into his rhetoric:

“We must remember that the greatest price of this conflict is not paid by us. It is paid by the Israeli girl in Sderot who closes her eyes in fear that a rocket will take her life in the night. It is paid by the Palestinian boy in Gaza who has no clean water and no country to call his own. These are God’s children. And after all of the politics and all of the posturing, this is about the right of every human being to live with dignity and security. That is a lesson embedded in the three great faiths that call one small slice of Earth the Holy Land. And that is why — even though there will be setbacks, and false starts, and tough days — I will not waiver in my pursuit of peace.”

To my friends in Israel, I say, “Beware of Obama’s ‘pursuit of peace.’ If you’re not careful, you’ll find yourself being tossed under the bus, joining others who didn’t fit into the 44th president’s plans for the future.”
