Obama to Close GITMO, Submerge Prisoners?

September 26th, 2009 · 4 Comments

File this under “never would have guessed it.”

In a piece published today at Right Truth, writer R.J. Godlewski unwittingly provides the evaluatory “tools” needed to connect the future of the Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility with President Barack Obama’s relentless assault of the nation’s oil and natural gas industry.

Offshore Drilling Rig

Before I continue riding this train of thought, take a moment to read the first two paragraphs of Godlewski’s piece:

In a matter of a few short months, President Barack Obama needs to make a monumental decision in regards to his campaign promise to close the military prison located at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba by the end of the year.   At this point, it seems highly unlikely that his decision will actually result in a formal closing by that deadline but the opportunity for an alternative prison that is safe, reliable, and located within U.S. federal territory is as close as the sea.

Long the favorite of conspiracy theorists and Hollywood action movies, manned underwater facilities are quite numerous in the offshore petroleum industry and their prospects for housing critical prisoners deserve scrutiny. The value of such an option rests with the concept of saturation, a technique that permits underwater welders, inspectors, and scientists to live and work beneath the surface for theoretically unlimited periods.

While one might think the two subjects — GITMO and the president’s assault on so-called “Big Oil” — unrelated, anyone who understands how thoroughly brilliant (sarcasm) President Obama is would quickly realize they’re not.  All of the destructive shots he’s taken at the oil and gas industry during the past eight months (see end of post) were merely preparatory moves.

Read the rest of Godlewski’s thoughtful and well-conceived piece here, and I think you’ll understand the president hasn’t been picking on Big Oil merely to satisfy the extreme-environmentalist greenies in his corner; no, he had our nation’s national security interests at heart all along (biting tongue in cheek).
