I consider myself one of those disgruntled registered voters who prefers to consider himself a conservative rather than a Republican. In fact, I had been leaning toward throwing my support behind candidates from lesser-known third parties. That changed today after a conservative friend of mine shared a copy of an e-mail he sent recently to a local representative of a conservative, third-party group seeking candidates to run against Democrats and Republicans in future elections.
Below, I share an excerpt of the e-mail message — minus any names, because they’re not important in this case — that made so much sense to me:
My firm conviction at this point is that there would be no better aid to the radical leftists who are now actively engaged in destroying the Constitution than to divide up the forces that oppose them. If we unite in an effort to defeat them, it can be accomplished, not easily, but it is possible. Divided, it is not possible.
Therefore, adding another name or party to the ballot could mean defeat for our side in the coming elections. The elections in 2010 are not of the “ordinary” type. Much more depends on the outcome than is usual, namely the preservation of The United States and its culture.
I would recommend that all elements who are against the Democratic Party’s current policies consider the absolute necessity of establishing a coordinated and united front to win the 2010 elections. Support for conservative candidates in the primaries is legitimate and necessary; however, whatever the outcome, that cannot be continued through the general election campaign if we want to first stop, then change, the policies coming from the current group of radical, left wing office holders.
If the objective is to defeat politicians who are currently engaged in destroying the Constitution, those who want to change this will, by dividing the ballot, be aiding those they want to defeat. Divide et impera – (Divide and conquer – Julius Caesar!) Should we continue to advocate splitting our forces, we will be guilty of disregarding the most basic lessons of history. Have we learned nothing in 2000 years?
I implore you to reconsider your support of candidates from third parties (i.e., Constitution, Libertarian, Reform et al), because we simply cannot afford to split the conservative voting block and allow the liberals to win another election cycle.
If this message makes sense to you, share it with like-minded individuals who, like me, were leaning toward third-party candidates.

I agree. Another right leaning third party is very dangerous because it would cement the Democrats as a one party dictatorial state. If you must support a third party, support a nutty party like the Greens. At least they would siphon off votes from the Democrats. Likewise, I’m sure George Soros is sending out his trolls to tap into the wholesale discontent with Washington and government largess. If Soros is smart, he will divert this discontent into a conservative third party movement.
We’ve all seen these disastrous third parties before such as Bull moose and Ross Perot. What did we get? Eight years of Wilson and eight years of Clinton.
Eight years of Obama will destroy America. Give me liberty or give me …

A third party would simply divide further the opposition to the present Obamanation. Don’t do it.
