Not surprising because he’s a liberal, Arne Duncan believes throwing more money at early-childhood education programs will ensure that a more-qualified pool of applicants will be available for future military service.
On Thursday, according to a media advisory, the former head of the failed Chicago Public Schools-turned-Secretary of Education will precede a call for more “investment” in early-childhood education programs by highlighting an “alarming new report” about 75 percent of young people ages 17 to 24 being unable to enlist in the military because they fail to graduate high school, have a criminal record, or are physically unfit.
The session will take place at 2:30 p.m. Eastern at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Secretary Duncan will be flanked by three retired general officers during the media opportunity. Among the “stars” will be former NATO Supreme Commander Wesley Clark.
Will more funding make a difference? Only in the bottom line of the early-childhood education sector of the union education machine.
