Since the folks at Technorati announced last month they were changing the way they calculate a blog’s “Technorati Authority,” I’ve been stumped by the low number (70) displayed in the Technorati widget near the bottom of this blog’s left sidebar. After all, I’ve been blogging full-time for more than three years and think I deserve an authority number higher than 70. This morning, everything changed after receiving a message containing a link to the Technorati site where information about my blog appears.
Instead of the “70″ figure that appears in the widget, I learned that my actual Technorati Authority is 556, only 203 points below The New York Times‘ Freakanomics blog which currently occupies the last spot in Technorati’s Top 100 Blogs.
Why? Because the techies at Technorati are still working out some bugs that will make available to bloggers like me a new, more accurate widget code that reflects the new calculation, the old widget remains. Can’t wait to replace it.
