Single-Payer Advocate ‘Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing’

November 16th, 2009 · No Comments

“Number one on my list continues to be the insurance companies, the for-profit insurance companies,” said Dr. Quentin Young early in his speech during the opening session of the 2009 Healthcare-Now.org National Strategy Conference Saturday afternoon in St. Louis.

The first of six ultra-liberal panel members to speak during the session, the founder leader of Healthcare-Now.org and Hyde Park neighbor of President Barack Obama told conference attendees they need to apply pressure on the insurance companies he described as being obscene, greedy, destructive and enemies of the people.

To members of this group, “applying pressure” means committing civil disobedience in the form of sit-ins, picket lines and, if necessary, being arrested on the premises of targeted companies.

In addition to lambasting insurance companies in a soft-spoken, grandfatherly manner which brings to mind the phrase, “wolf in sheep’s clothing,” he said the 1,900-page health care bill recently passed by the House “continues the obscenity of excluding undocumented aliens” and sent the country back to pre-Roe v. Wade standards when it comes to the availability of and funding for abortions.

He wrapped up his statement by saying, “I believe the American people are ready” for single-payer healthcare.

I’m not.  Are you?

Below is the full-length video of Dr. Young’s statement which I shot as the only journalist at the conference.
