Question of the Day: How many ACORN officials will show up to help Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) launch the 2010 Census in Schools Program Dec. 1 at Gateway Math & Science Elementary School in St. Louis?
According to a media advisory issued today by the Census Bureau, Representative Clay will help Census Bureau officials launch “2010 Census: It’s About Us,” a program described as giving schools a wide range of free, optional, standards-based lesson plans on subjects related to the census, ranging from math to social studies. According to the Census Bureau, the optional program, designed for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, will reach all 118,000 schools and 56 million students nationwide.
Again: The optional program will reach 56 million students in 118,000 schools. Hmmm??
The good news is that ACORN, the community organizing group recently exposed for its alleged involvement in corrupt and fraudulent activities, is not mentioned by name in the Census Bureau’s Teaching Guide for the program, originally published in 2008. Apparently, the group’s name — – and those of every other Community/Service Organization working with the Census Bureau, it appears — was scrubbed from page 24 where it likely appeared under the section, Partner Groups. A click on that page’s link to CSOs yields a “Page Not Found” message.
