What is it with me and this bond I seem to have with the militia movement?
On March 18, I was inspired to write and publish a mostly-humorous post under the headline, Yikes, I Might Be Part of the Militia Movement! The inspiration came in the form of news that the Missouri Information Analysis Center (a.k.a., “Fusion Center”) had issued to members of the Missouri law enforcement community a document (pdf) one writer described as containing “chilling instructions” about how to identify members of the “modern militia movement.”
The next day, I was contacted by Fox News’ Josh Miller, a man whom I must assume either missed the humor in my post or simply didn’t appreciate it. Anyway, he asked to interview me about the controversial MIAC document and, four days later, my comments were included near the end of his article published at FoxNews.com.
Today, almost nine months later, my Yikes article continues to “give back” in unexpected ways.
Specifically, I received an e-mail this afternoon from a producer who’s name and company name I will keep under wraps until such a time as it’s appropriate to disclose. She explained that she’s working with a non-fiction TV and film company located in Los Angeles that is “currently speaking with the History Channel about developing a special about militias” and “wanted to reach out” to me.
Why me?
“We are looking to do a respectful documentary that presents all sides of the movement and gives people a chance to express their views, without any preconceived notions,” she continued. “I have seen your comments in the press, and I was wondering if this is something that you would be open to discussing. If so, please let me know and perhaps we could schedule a time to talk further by phone.”
After checking out the web site of her company and being very impressed with the caliber of the company and the accolades it had received for several of its films, I replied. Via e-mail, I let her know “I’m both intrigued by your project and open to further discussion.”
After providing details about my hardly-militant lifestyle, I closed my reply, saying, “If we opt to further our discussion both off and on camera, please know that I will blog about our interaction and use my own social networking resources fully to promote my blog.”
Now, I wait to see what happens next. Stay tuned!

Interesting. Sounds like she thinks YOU are involved in militia. She may be disappointed.

Indeed, she may!

Congratulations. It’s always nice to be noticed, but I did see a red flag: “…that presents all sides of the movement…”, as if it was singular? And one-sided? Or radicalism, right & left?
Just wondering. Good luck.

I’m still wondering, too.
