“The fat lady is poised to sing.”
No matter what words you use to describe it, the fact is that Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) appears to have reached a compromise (a.k.a., “sold out the American people”) with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and the road to government-run health care appears to be a “shovel-ready project.”
Among other things, according to a Wall Street Journal report this morning, Senator Nelson “won a tightening of rules designed to ensure federal funds aren’t used to finance insurance coverage of abortion procedures.”
While Politics Daily reported that “states will be permitted to opt-out of providing abortion coverage on their own state-based health exchanges,” Jill Stanek notes the words, “Opt-out,” not “opt-in,” guarantees a future of uphill fights in 50 states to stop public funding of abortion in health care.
According to several news reports like this one, Republicans are going to require a reading of the entirety of the most-recent 300-plus-page amendment to the bill in an effort to stall its passage. Unfortunately, however, it appears “HEALTHSCARE” is a “done deal.”
