Didn’t hear much about the Obama Administration’s appointment of Amanda Simpson (right) to serve as a senior technical adviser to the Department of Commerce? Neither did I.
Why do you think her appointment didn’t receive much attention in the mainstream media? Perhaps, it’s because President Barack Obama’s poll numbers are so low that his handlers don’t want to drive them lower by bringing attention to the appointment of Simpson.
Who is Simpson?
Among other things, he she is a transgender individual who has served on the board of directors of the National Center for Transgender Equality for the past three years, according to this article.
Despite Simpson’s desire to identify with a gender other than the one of his her birth, his her appointment might work out well. If it does, President Obama will know where to turn — here and here — to hire others like him her.

Well of course there’s dozens of equally well qualified candidates. Rocket Scientists with extensive experience with military hardware, and 20 years of being a Test Pilot can be found on every street corner.
Er… maybe not.
I know of exactly one (who shall remain nameless). She has 30 years in defence and aerospace, is a Rocket Scientist, and Chief Architect for various Naval Combat Systems. Experience on submarines, graduate and postgraduate qualifications in Pure Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Science Communication, and even her undergraduate thesis was on applications of computer technology to naval weapons systems. She wouldn’t be acceptable though, her politics are too right-wing.
We could try Stephanie Langhoff, Chief Scientist at NASA’s Aimes Research Centre, though her military background is a bit weak.
Or Col Diane Schroer, former Special Forces commander and Airborne Ranger with 450 combat jumps, and possibly the world’s foremost expert on military solutions in counter-terrorism. She might be not so good on the technology though.
OK, how about Professor Emerita Lynn Conway, inventor of some of the crucial technology used in today’s computers and missile systems. Former head of the Defence Strategic Computing initiative…
Oh Darn! All these women transitioned like Ms Simpson did! Even the right-winger.
And of course to appoint the best qualified person to a job is NOT the American Way. Only those who are politically reliable, loyal to whoever is in office. Competence is a disadvantage. Hence Reno, Napolitano, Christopher, etc etc.
Wonder how they managed to screw up this time, and appoint the best person for the job?
