State legislators in 35 states have made health care freedom a key issue in recent months, making it a hot campaign issue as 2010 elections near.
Today, conservative Rush Limbaugh mentioned the legislation — known as the Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act or the Health Care Freedom Act, depending upon the state — on his radio program, and it has been the subject of several BMW posts as well as a recent front-page New York Times article.
Already filed or pre-filed in 30 states, the legislation is set to be filed in an additional five states — Kansas, Montana, North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Utah, according to the American Legislative Exchange Council. In addition, citizens in Colorado have announced an initiative that will push the measure. It has already been pre-filed in the 30 states below:
- Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas and Florida;
- Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa and Kentucky;
- Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and Mississippi;
- Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico and North Dakota;
- Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and South Dakota; and
- Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.

Bob, ALEC needs to be exposed for what foundations underwrite it and whether it gets federal grant money to do this political activity–because it is a NONPROFIT, it is technically prohibited from participating in political activities such as lobbying for or influencing specific legislation. It is also unconstitutional because ALEC undermines state sovereignty. Cheers, Genevieve Brown

Genevieve — Nonprofits are not prohibited from lobbying; instead, they must jump through more regulatory hoops and accountability to engage in lobbying. As for undermining state sovereignty, they might be on some issues, but when it comes to health care freedom, I think they’re right. If you have more to back up your claims, I’m “all ears.” — Thanks! Bob

Don’t they know the Democrats will label their states as radicals for actually using the Tenth Amendment?

Come on, Clay, they label everything, don’t they?
