HuffPo’s Anti-Israel Bias Exposed

Regarding the tense situation in Israel and the Middle East, I received an important message this morning from the folks at Huff-Watch who keep a watchful and corrective eye on the folks at The Huffington Post.  The subject:  His latest post, “HuffPost video “news” host pushes Hamas lies, ignores savage reality of Hamas”:

In my first major report (2010) on HuffPost’s bias and incitement of hate against Israel, “The Stimulus And The (Approved) Response: Anti-Semitism and Israel-Hatred on Huffington Post,” I documented how it was effectively acting as a PR tool and propaganda arm for Hamas – and that it knowingly violates its own “rules” in order to facilitate the outpouring of Nazi-like hate against Jews, from commenters. A major focus of that report was on HuffPost’s coverage of Operation Cast Lead, which made clear its pro-Hamas, anti-Israel bias. Back then, however, HuffPost was only a top-ten U.S. “news” site.

With the election of President Obama, since early 2009 HuffPost’s “journalists” began being welcomed all over Capitol Hill, and enjoy direct, preferred access to the White House.  It now boasts a blogging stable including many top figures of the Democrat party, and governments around the world.  Less well-known is that as of early 2011, nearly 10,000 unique visitors a day arrived from the three largest incubators of Islamist terror: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Egypt, presumably in part because, as even Abe Foxman (a HuffPost blogger) noted, the comments that HuffPost publishes in response to his articles are “dripping” with anti-Semitism.  Since then, I have been documenting HuffPost’s escalating incitement and tolerance of hate against Israel and Jews — and how it ignores, whitewashes or downplays militant Islamists’ threats, acts and statements against Israelis and Jews.

In the past year, HuffPost’s reach and influence have dramatically escalated: it is now the #1 most-read online “newspaper” in the world. Most recently, it launched a video “news” venture, HuffPost “Live.”  One of its “host-producers” is Ahmed Shihab-Eldin, a former producer for Al Jazeera, and (surprise!) an ardent pro-Islamist, anti-Israel propagandist, as other online publications have documented (Algemeiner; HuffPostMonitor).

My latest report, “HuffPost video “news” host pushes Hamas lies, ignores savage reality of Hamas,” documents how it is now applying the exact same incitement and bias against Israel – but in the world of video – a far more compelling and dynamic medium. Highlights:

• In recent days, Shihab-Eldin has claimed that the only parties in the Middle East that live in justifiable fear are (a) Iran, and (b) the Palestinians, and that Israeli is “terrorizing” what he refers to as the “Occupied Gaza Strip.”

• Both HuffPost and HuffPostLive published not a single story on the front page or World page about the hundreds of rockets, missiles and mortars that Hamas fired into Israel from Nov. 10-14.

• The first story to appear on either page concerning the situation in Israel was Netanyahu’s threat to begin targeted assassinations – which HuffPost defined as against “Gazans” (not Hamas officials and installations).

• Since then, HuffPost and HuffPostLive have consistently published material framed to assail and incite hate against Israel – but not a single piece that reveals Hamas’s fake injury/death videos and photos, or its threat to resume suicide bombings in Israeli cafes and bus stations.

I ask that you please give this report your urgent attention, and if you feel it is merited, to help publicize the reality of how HuffPost is advancing the cyber-jihad against Israel and Jews with an unrivaled level of influence and reach:

Barack Obama’s Vision for the State of Israel

With the Obama Administration doing almost everything possible to undermine Israel, I thought I’d offer a 2011 update of the State of Israel coin originally “minted” in 2009 as one of Barack Obama’s Seven Mystery States Coin Collection.

What Was Going On In Israel Today? (Update)

At 4 p.m. Central Thursday, a Google Alert for the term, “Israeli Air Force,” arrived in my inbox.  The alert contained a link to an article purportedly published today on the Jewish Telegraphic Agency blog.

The summary of the article caused quite a bit of concern in my mind:

… Benjamin Netanyahu, has just ordered roughly one hundred F-15Es, F-16Is, F-16Cs, and other aircraft of the Israeli air force to fly east toward Iran—possibly by crossing Saudi Arabia, possibly by threading the border between Syria and Turkey, ….

When I clicked on the article’s headline, Jeff Goldberg & the attack on Iran, I was whisked to a JTA web page minus any sign of the article:

Upon arriving at the site, several explanations for what might have taken place and resulted in the faulty link crossed my mind:

Did the Israeli government put the kabosh on the folks at JTA for publishing the article?

Did something far less controversial — perhaps, a web site design error or problem with a link — cause today’s case of the mysterious disappearing article?

Did Israel conduct some sort of information warfare exercise against Iran?

Or did something else happen?

I’d be interested in your thoughts.

Meanwhile, I wait for a response to an inquiry I sent to the JTA newsroom, asking for an explanation.  I’ll let you know if I receive a reply.

NOTE: Just before deciding to publish this article, I ran a Google Advanced Search for “Benjamin Netanyahu” and “Israeli Air Force.”  That search produced 33 results, including a link to the aforementioned JTA article which appeared twice among the six most-recent results.

UPDATE 6/24/11 at 10:56 p.m. Central: It appears the Jeff Goldberg story is now “live” at the website.  Still waiting for an explanation as to why the story took so long to appear on the site.  Police officer:  “Alright, citizens, nothing to see here.  Move along.”

President Obama Continues Anti-Israel Push

A red-letter link atop the Drudge Report takes readers to a disturbing Foreign Policy magazine article published Wednesday:  In sharp reversal, U.S. agrees to rebuke Israel in Security Council.  The article, in turn, stands as only the most-recent reminder of many about President Barack Obama’s anti-Israel sentiment.

The State of Israel coin above reflects President Obama’s vision for the future of the Jewish State (i.e., it’s blank).  It went into circulation on the day he was inaugurated as part of Barack Obama’s Seven Mystery States Coin Collection,” an alternative for coin collectors not interested in the U.S. Mint’s 50 State Quarters® Program.

Since his inauguration, President Obama hasn’t disappointed those who share his vision for Israel.

One month after “44″ took office, U.S. State Department officials participated in the United Nations World Conference Against Racism, an event which had a decidedly anti-Israel tone.

Two months after he took office, NEWSWEEK threw in its support of President Obama’s vision by erasing Israel from a world map they published.

In an American Thinker opinion piece three months after “O” was sworn in, Cliff Thier expressed grave concern about the future of Israel and worries that President Obama will use U.S. Air Force assets to prevent Israeli forces from taking out Iran’s nuclear weapons capability.  No doubt, that concern remains intact today.

Four months after the inauguration, Israel National News reported that the United States was working with both Egypt and Russia to rid Israel of its nuclear weapons, as part of a comprehensive plan to neutralize Iran’s nuclear power.

Of course, I could list dozens — if not hundreds — more examples of the Obama Administration’s anti-Israel stance.  Instead, I’ll simply fast forward to the Foreign Policy piece mentioned in the first paragraph above.  In it, writer Colum Lynch shares this disturbing news:

The U.S. informed Arab governments Tuesday that it will support a U.N. Security Council statement reaffirming that the 15-nation body “does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity,” a move aimed at avoiding the prospect of having to veto a stronger Palestinian resolution calling the settlements illegal.

That, my friends, is akin to U.S. abandonment of the Jewish State at a time during which tensions are high in the Middle East.  This stance must change.  2012 can’t come soon enough.

Netanyahu: Israel Won’t Apologize to Turkey (Update)

Though Turkish government officials have, for months, been calling for Israel to apologize for their involvement in a May 31 military raid that left nine Turkish activists dead, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ruled out the possibility, according to new reports (See here, here and here) this afternoon.

Such a stance should not surprise anyone, especially when one considers that even Turkish citizens living in Israel protested against their own government’s involvement in the so-called “aid flotilla” incident which seemed to be aimed at stirring tensions in the Gaza Strip.

A Bob McCarty Writes stringer captured exclusive video footage (above) as well as still images (below) showing Turkish citizens protesting outside the Turkish Embassy in Tel Aviv immediately following the incident.

UPDATE 12/28/10 at 9:02 a.m. Central: My stringer in Tel Aviv sent me photos (see one below) of a new protest that took place outside the Turkish Embassy yesterday.  According to the Jerusalem Post, some 800 employees of a Turkish construction company operating in Israel are upset with their government, fearful that a failure to renew a trade agreement between Israel and Turkey will cost them their jobs.

Israeli Delegation Skips Obama’s UN Speech

The Israeli delegation to the United Nations opted out of listening to President Barack Obama deliver a pro-Palestinians speech at the United Nations this morning.  Perhaps better than anyone, they understand that the 44th president of the United States has, despite sometimes-flowery words to the contrary, little regard for the State of Israel, one of the seven mystery states the president said he visited during his 2008 presidential campaign.

Netanyahu: ‘Jewish State has right to defend itself’

“Under international law and under common sense and common decency, Israel has every right to interdict this weaponry and to inspect the ships that might be transporting them,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu early Wednesday evening in response to the skirmish at sea between Israeli Defense Force troops and people aboard Gaza-bound vessels purporting to carry aid.

“This is not a theoretical challenge or a theoretical threat,” he continued.  We’ve already interdicted vessels bound for Hisbolla and for Hamas, from Iran, containing hundreds of tons of weapons.”

Of course, he said many more things of importance, but the end of his speech was most worthwhile:

“The Jewish State has a right to defend itself just like any other state.”

Watching Netanyahu operate, I find myself wishing the United States had a leader with as much backbone and integrity as the Israeli PM.
