Did President Obama Send Hillary to the Moon?

One year ago today, then-Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee became the first to suggest putting Hillary Clinton on a rocket ship to the moon.  Now, it appears as if the statement made by the former Arkansas governor during a televised debate, captured in the video (below left), might have been prophetic.

With the extremely low profile being maintained by the former first lady as President Barack Obama’s secretary of state, it wouldn’t be difficult to convince someone that Clinton has indeed been sent to the moon — or, at a minimum, is serving aboard the International Space Station — as part of a new initiative in foreign relations.  She is that scarce!

Gotta hand it to President Obama; he sure knows how to neutralize an opponent.

Prospect of Obama Presidency Inspires Poet

After waking to find a comment submitted in response to an Oct. 3 post about Barack Obama, I contacted the author of that comment — a poem, actually — by phone this morning and asked what inspired her to write it.

“I think that’s kind of obvious,” said Merry Roloff, a 54-year-old aspiring writer who lives near Denver.  “There’s no way in hell I’ll vote for Obama.”

After reading it, I’m sure you’ll want to read more works written by this woman who, coincidentally, shares her birthday with Oprah Winfrey.

Below is her Obama-inspired poem:

The devil is quite near…

And though I watch around me, with wondrous eyes of awe
As the masses are quite mesmerized, by this devil in disguise
He speaks of change and sharing, his shape it shifts to please
And the masses they’re believing, on this hoary tongue of lies

He speaks of all the things he’ll do, of the dragons he will slay
And the spreading of the booty, to the masses he does tell
His opponent is a temperate man, whose heart is full with love
For a country held in turmoil, a place he knows quite well

But the masses are quite mesmerized, by this devil in disguise
As he speaks of better things to come, for the loved ones of us all
So I ask my friends and countrymen, please keep and open ear
And keep an open view on things, for the moment is quite near

I ask my friends and neighbors, who may be a slight naive
To take a second look around, and see what lurks beyond
For the devil tends to shift his shape, to please the eye of all
And he speaks his words to please the ear, and appeals to where we ache

So take another look my friends, and try to see the truth
And try to see the view beyond, the better days to come
For all we ever want and need, is within our grasp quite soon
If only through the fog we saw, the harvester of lies, the devil in disguise

He bears a name from lands afar, and his past is cloaked from all
His lineage of land not sure, a twisted past he wears
So please, I beg, I plead my case… please take another look
at this devil who has promised all, the fortune that they seek

Is this really what you seek my friends?
This sprite whose set the hook? For bait, is what he has laid out
and the school has seen the fare
And the school he has now netted
Is fully unaware.

We Know More About ‘Joe the Plumber’ Than ‘O’

Thanks to members of the liberal mainstream news media, most Americans know more about Joe “Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher than about Barack “The One” Obama.

We know where Joe lives (i.e., Holland, Ohio), what he does for a living (i.e., the plumbing business) and what he would do regarding taxes were he to run for office (i.e., not raise them).  Conversely, a lot of people are not convinced they know where Obama is from (see here and here), what experience he has and how his tax plans will affect American families and small business owners.

To show how bad things have gotten, even the National Enquirer appears to be in the tank for Obama, going so far as to write that Joe — real name “Samuel Joseph Warzelbacher” — is the son of the son of Robert Wurzelbacher – the son-in-law of Charles KeatingThe Charles Keating of the Keating 5 scandal – for which Sen. John McCain was reprimanded by the Senate for his part in attempting to illegally influence government regulators, according to the ultra-liberal Huffington Post blog.

Nowhere does the Enquirer or HuffPo mention what the Zanesville (Ohio) Times did in a recent report that McCain was exonerated by the Senate Ethics Committee.

Further, the two publications failed to report that the committee’s “rebuke” of McCain was issued only because the Democrat-controlled Congress needed a Republican to take some heat over the matter.  Otherwise, only Democrats would have been named.

Finally, they failed to report what then-special prosecutor in the case said 17 years ago about the man who is now the Republican presidential nominee:

I investigated John McCain for a year and a half … and if there is one thing I am absolutely confident of, it is John McCain is an honest man.” — Bob Bennett, “Keating Five” special prosecutor, 1991

That comment tells me all I need to know about McCain.

John McCain Offered New Tactic for Final Debate

Behind in the polls, John McCain needs to adopt an unconventional campaign tactic I read about yesterday; he needs to publicly challenge Barack Obama to agree to be hooked up to a lie detector during the third and final presidential debate Wednesday evening at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

Yes, I know, the Democratic Party presidential nominee would never agree to such a condition.  For that matter, the power brokers behind the Commission on Presidential Debates would never allow it either.  Still, I think the Republican Party presidential nominee will win points with fence straddlers simply by issuing the challenge.  And, who knows, he might sway some folks away from Obama’s camp, too.

According to an Associated Press article I read yesterday, two challengers — a Republican and a Libertarian — vying for Indiana’s Ninth Congressional District seat agreed to be hooked up to lie detectors during a debate scheduled Oct. 21.  Sadly, incumbent Democrat Rep. Baron Hill said, “No,” to the proposal and, as a result, the proposal has been tossed out.

Though I’m not an Indiana resident, I’m convinced that the stock of both challengers increased after agreeing to a polygraphed debate.  Hence, the reason McCain should float the proposal.

Imagine the mileage McCain could get from floating such a proposal and then reminding Americans during the debate that Obama refused to be hooked up to a lie detector:

  • The “Maverick” senator could raise the issue of Obama trying to convince Iraqi leaders to scuttle plans for a U.S. withdrawal of troops, a serious matter reported in The Washington Times today;
  • He could raise the troubling issue of Obama’s birth certificate and ask the Illinois senator why he refuses to produce a genuine birth certificate; an

Couldn’t hurt, could it?  Hope he does it.

Oprah’s Mom Says She’s a Victim of Store Credit

Oprah Winfrey’s mom, Vernita Lee, is blaming the folks at a high-end fashion store in Milwaukee for her money problems.  According to a news report late Tuesday afternoon, the mother of the Chicago-based media juggernaut said Valentina’s should have never extended credit that allowed her to rack up more than $150,000 in charges.

So where’s Oprah as all of this is going on?  Apparently, she’s not willing to help her mother out — or, to coin a phrase, not willing to be her “mother’s keeper” — despite raking in a $285 million salary in 2008.

Now, I understand why Oprah supports Barack Obama.  The Democratic Party presidential nominee thinks like she does (i.e., he can’t find it in his heart to be his “brother’s keeper” despite earning a seven-figure income.)

Obama Branded as ‘Inexperienced’ in First Debate

A simple, often-used persuasion style, frequently used in establishing brand identity in the marketplace, helped Republican John McCain gain an edge over Democrat Barack Obama in the first debate between the two presidential candidates, according to persuasion expert Randy Sparks.

“A very common persuasive tactic is that if you repeat something often enough, people start to believe it. If it’s credible, it tends to stick,” said Sparks, associate professor of marketing at the University of Dayton, who was featured in a post on this blog one day prior to the debate.

“I thought that Senator McCain’s use of the phrase ‘Senator Obama just doesn’t understand’ in the debate was consistent with the practice of establishing good brand identity,” Sparks said. “He said it at the beginning of each of his segments, speaking slowly and clearly.”

Repeating that phrase not only helped McCain cast doubt on what Obama said but branded his opponent as less experienced and even naive, Sparks said. “Using the phrase once wouldn’t have had much impact, but the cumulative effect was like hitting him (Obama) with lots of light jabs.”

Sparks gave his analysis of the two candidates’ speaking styles after Obama and McCain met Friday, Sept. 27, in the first debate of the presidential election.

“Linguistically speaking it was a win for McCain, not a knockout, not a TKO, but in my view, McCain was up by a round. He was better able to capitalize on his point of view,” Sparks said.

The cadence and pace of Obama’s speaking style also did not emphasize his points well, he said. Sparks noticed that Obama often started a statement with a lengthy, drawn-out word, followed by a rapid-fire response.

“His main point would be lost,” he said. “He’s clearly trying to choose his words carefully, as you must do in this situation, but it tends to make a listener wonder if he had a quick and immediate grasp of the situation.”

Sparks said that Obama could be more effective by finding a strong, brief but clear statement of one of his strengths and repeating that statement at the beginning of each of his segments in the next debate.

Sparks has researched how a speaker’s style affects his or her ability to persuade a listener. His research, titled “Style Versus Substance:  Multiple Roles of Language Power in Persuasion,” was published this year in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology.

“People are very, very concerned about the style of the message. Style has a strong impact on whether you are persuaded,” said Sparks.

His research found that speakers who use many “ers” and “ums” or speak with considerable hesitation are less effective persuaders.

“The degree to which a speaker is fluent has an effect on his or her credibility. Even though what someone says may make sense, you are more likely to think they don’t know what they’re talking about,” he said.
