Africa-Based Terror Group Plays Part in New Fiction Tale

Recent news about the al-Shabaab terror group reminds me of the action in the opening chapter of my just released crime-fiction novel, The National Bet.

Action in the opening chapter of the book takes place in East Africa and involves an Air Force pararescue unit on a mission to save a downed pilot:

Captain McGowan’s F-16C Fighting Falcon had lost hydraulic pressure in its lone engine. As a result, he had to eject in an area only a few miles away from an enemy base where, a short time earlier, members of the terror group al-Shabaab had been on the receiving end of one of his laser-guided five-hundred-pound bombs. Now, instead of being the hunter, he’d become the prey, hunted by dark-skinned men now less than half a mile away and closing fast.

If you like crime-fiction stories that seem as if they are ripped from the headlines, you will love The National Bet.

Remember Pearl Harbor — 73rd Anniversary

On this day, the 73rd anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, I share a half-dozen photographs shot Dec. 7, 1941, the “day that will live in infamy.”

Credit for the photos above belongs to the U.S. Navy photographers who shot them as well as the Navy History and Heritage Center Collection and the National Archives collection where they are kept. To see more photos like these, click here.

FYI: I encourage you on this day and every day to thank a veteran for the freedom you enjoy.
