Obama Not Brother’s, Grandma’s or Auntie’s Keeper

Barack Obama would like everyone to believe he’s his brother’s keeper, but…

  • After reading an article published today in the UK’s Times Online, his inaction prompts me to write this post.

In case you haven’t read the Times Online article, the headline might give you an idea about what stirred my interest in it:

Found in a rundown Boston estate: Barack Obama’s aunt Zeituni Onyango

The writer of the article — go on to explain that, only a few miles form where Obama attended classes at Harvard, Zeituni Onyango, the aunt so affectionately described in his best-selling memoir, Dreams from My Father, lives in a disabled-access flat on a rundown public housing estate in South Boston.

Brother’s keeper?  Oh, brother!

Oprah’s Mom Says She’s a Victim of Store Credit

Oprah Winfrey’s mom, Vernita Lee, is blaming the folks at a high-end fashion store in Milwaukee for her money problems.  According to a news report late Tuesday afternoon, the mother of the Chicago-based media juggernaut said Valentina’s should have never extended credit that allowed her to rack up more than $150,000 in charges.

So where’s Oprah as all of this is going on?  Apparently, she’s not willing to help her mother out — or, to coin a phrase, not willing to be her “mother’s keeper” — despite raking in a $285 million salary in 2008.

Now, I understand why Oprah supports Barack Obama.  The Democratic Party presidential nominee thinks like she does (i.e., he can’t find it in his heart to be his “brother’s keeper” despite earning a seven-figure income.)
