Connecticut School Shooting Provokes Much Thought

Because I fully expect President Barack Obama to use today’s tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., as a tipping point for revamping gun ownership laws in the United States, I shared the following comments on my Facebook page today:

Just think, one armed citizen inside that school might have prevented or, at a minimum, reduced the scope of the gunman’s rampage in Connecticut today.

While I feel for those suffering today, every day that passes without armed security guards — and/or teachers trained to carry and use concealed firearms — in our schools is a day too long.

We cannot allow the anti-gun crowd to use this event to take away our gun ownership rights.

Finally, we must pray for our country’s — and world’s — healing, repentance.

Retired Army General Identifies Signs of Insurgency

Almost one year ago, I published a post featuring a clip of Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin painting an accurate picture of the circumstances surrounding the case of Maj. Malik Nidal Hasan, the Muslim on trial now for allegedly — and I use that term reluctantly and only for legal reasons — killing 13 and wounded 31 at Fort Hood, Texas, Nov. 5, 2009. Today, I share another must-watch clip in which the retired Army officer and original member of the Army’s elite Delta Force shares his keen understanding of how actions of the federal government today mimic Marxist insurgencies of the past.

Notably, General Boykin points to six major tactics that have been or are close to being employed by the Obama Administration:

Nationalize major sections of the economy (See How Can Auto Bailout Succeed When Its Based on Fraud?);

Redistribute wealth (See Audio: Obama Advocates Redistribution of Wealth);

Discredit the opposition (See Yikes, I Might Be Part of the Militia Movement!);

Censorship (See Freedoms of Speech, Religion at Stake as Hate-Crimes Bill Passes House Committee);

Need any more reasons to vote the Democrats out of office Nov. 2? Didn’t think so.

Constitution Gives Individuals Right to Bear Arms

This morning, a reader shared a link to a USA TODAY online poll in which readers are asked to answer the question, “Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms?” It was not until after I clicked “Yes” that I noticed the poll had been online for approximately 26 months. The results:

97 percent of respondents believe the Second Amendment gives individuals the right to bear arms;

Only 2 percent think it does not; and

One percent couldn’t decide.

Merchant Offers ‘Free Rock With Every Purchase’

Early on in “Bethany,” the 60-second clip below, you’ll think you’re watching the trailer for another crime-filled horror movie flik. Then, you’ll realize it’s something else altogether — something that concludes with the offer of “a free rock with every purchase.” Take a look.

It turns out this spot was really a television commercial for Totally Awesome Guns & Range, a firearms-related business in Salt Lake City.Some will claim the shooter in this spot crossed the line by shooting at a would-be intruder before he entered her house. I say, hey, this is a television commercial and no animals were harmed during its filming.

Fresh on the heels of the National Rifle Association‘s gathering to hear 2008 Republican presidential candidates, I felt it appropriate to offer this look at the right to bear arms that highlights what happened in the United Kingdom and Australia when citizens were forced to give up their rights to gun ownership.

As election day nears, voters can expect to see Rudy Giuliani on the campaign trail attempting to distance himself from his past remarks on gun rights, gun control, the Second Amendment and the like. In fact, it’s already starting: here and here. Conversely, his opponents are making it a point to highlight his track record on guns at every opportunity, including here and here.
