John Oliver Video Should Be Required Viewing for Americans

Familiar with the fact my book, The National Bet, went on sale last week, a friend in New York sent a link to this video segment about the lottery from the HBO program, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Aside from the occasional use of coarse language, this 15-minute video should be required viewing for all Americans.

What does the content of this video have to do with my first crime-fiction novel, The National Bet? Plenty, but I’m not going to spoil it for you. Instead, I’ll share the synopsis below:

Simply put, Leonard County Sheriff’s Office Detective “Joe-L” Wilson solved cases others could not. After being invited to leave Missouri and bring his investigative talents to the FBI, he proved himself worthy at the federal level as well. Eighteen months into his new job, Americans begin dying mysteriously, by the thousands, during the Fourth of July weekend, and he’s put in charge of the investigation into their deaths. The biggest challenge of his law enforcement career, the investigation becomes personal after he realizes he shares one thing in common with those who died: The National Bet.

To discover the link between John Oliver’s message and the book, get yourself a copy of The National Bet and read it.
