As you all know, I love writing. I’ve published several books (all available on Amazon now) that are all non-fiction. However, I’ve been thinking of branching out and using my writing skills to create a fiction book. I’ve been writing using a few writing prompts to get myself used to writing in a fiction style. I’ve been getting better and my stories have been getting more attention when I post them but I had the perfect opportunity to get first-hand insight on how to a fiction book well!
Writers often state the importance of having a designated writing area, like a home office or a study, in which to work. This way, you can remove any distractions from getting in the way of the creative process. Surrounding yourself with suitable furniture and supplies like straight office desks, chairs, cabinets, and general stationery can really help to create an environment conducive to working productively. Authors the world over have written their bestsellers from the privacy and comfort of their offices, away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life.
I had the opportunity to meet author Kevin Stevens, author of Reach the Shining River and several other books. He was in town this morning to speak about the writing profession during a special event presented by St. Louis’ Fontbonne University and my local author’s group, Saturday Writers.
Like me, Kevin began his life as an author by writing two nonfiction books and then turning to fiction for his third book. To learn more about him, check out his Amazon Author Page.
